  • EdAdvance Receives Donation from People’s United Bank in Litchfield

    EdAdvance was the recent recipient of a donation from People’s United Bank in Litchfield. In honor of their new branch opening at Stop & Shop in Litchfield, People’s United Bank selected EdAdvance as a recipient for the donation.  People’s United Bank regularly awards a donation to a nonprofit in the community served by the bank when a new branch opens.

    Skills21 at EdAdvance will use the funds to support the School Fuel project at the Center School in Litchfield.  School Fuel uses a custom mobile learning platform combined with professional development support to successfully integrate technology and drive student success.

    The nationally recognized Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Training certification program will be offered on the afternoons of August 14 & 16 at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, located at 444 Main Street North, Southbury, CT 06488.  There is no charge for this program and the public is invited to participate.

    The Coaching and Self-Reflection Tool for Competency in Teaching English Learners is an interactive learning tool designed to support educators’ understanding of The Common Core of Teaching through the lens of effective practice for English learners (ELs). This resource was designed by the CT Strategic English Learner Partnership, collaboration between the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) and the Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs) to support all educators in their work with ELs.

  • Advocacy for English Learners: Opening Doors and Windows Workshop

    Using the book by Diane Staehr-Fenner, Advocating for English Learners, attendees will read, discuss, interact and answer questions related to the topics of the need for advocacy, empathy, collaboration, understanding and leadership to better serve the needs of English Learners and their families. Each workshop participant will receive a copy of the book.
  • Foothills Adult and Continuing Education Celebrates the Class of 2017

    Graduation exercises were held for Foothills Adult and Continuing Education students on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the EdAdvance Litchfield campus.  Thirty-six students earned their high school credential through one of three pathways:  Adult High School Credit Diploma (29 graduates), National External Diploma Program (4 graduates) and GED (3 graduates).  Foothills also recognized six individuals who recently became naturalized citizens.

    Tracey Lay, Director, School Age Programs & Development Services for EdAdvance, the Regional Education Service Center in western Connecticut was appointed to chair the Board of Directors for the National AfterSchool Association (NAA), after being elected to the board two years ago in a national election. 
  • Care Closet for Homeless Students Opens at Torrington High School

    On June 5th, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at Torrington High School (THS) there was the grand opening for the Care Closet. The Care Closet is a new resource for youth experiencing homelessness and youth in unstable housing.
