The purpose of the Northwestern Connecticut Youth and Adolescent Mental Health Coalition is to mobilize the representative constituent groups who have a shared interest/stake in the mental health and substance abuse status of youth and adolescents who live in the Northwest region.  

Through our combined actions we will:

  • Advocate to create changes in legislation and policies that support increased funding and improvements in services to area youth in the areas of substance use disorders and other mental health services; including:
    • Program funding
    • Program and capacity growth
    • Clarification and adjustment of privacy and information sharing concerns
    • Health insurance coverage options
    • Resources for prevention, education and early detection
  • Improve the availability/access to quality services for all youth and adolescents in the region:
    • Prevention
    • Education
    • Treatment
    • Transition and support services
  • Improve Communication and Outreach:
    • Social awareness, accessibility to services and access entry points
    • Parent education, communications, and outreach
    • Help link families with substance abuse use and mental health services - focus on accessibility to services and outreach
  • Identification of appropriate and sharable data points that are reflective of this issue
    • Be knowledgeable and promote and share Best Practices
    • Identification and standardized screening to assist in early interventions
