Flanders Academy for Outdoor Science is an experiential science enrichment program for diverse elementary school students throughout northwestern Connecticut and the greater Danbury area. The program is a collaborative effort between EdAdvanceand Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust.
The program provides an alternative model of science education that uses the natural world as the classroom! Flanders Nature Center offers seven nature preserves, woodlands, ponds, streams, fields, meadows, a bog and trails for student investigation. Students catch, examine and release bugs, frogs, amphibians and other animals, take discovery hikes and engage in wildlife observation. At the farm sanctuary and barn, students experience hands-on farming and animal care. There’s also time to learn about growing crops, beekeeping, making maple syrup and raising farm animals. Flanders Academy for Outdoor Science provides a natural environment rich with experiential science learning.
