Healthy Beginnings is an engaging nutrition and physical fitness enrichment program for students in grades 2-5 from Barkhamsted, Canaan, Cornwall, Colebrook, Litchfield, Norfolk, North Canaan, Plymouth, Regions 6,12, and 14, Salisbury, Sharon, Torrington, Watertown, and Winchester. During the week of April vacation, students meet at Camp Jewell in Colebrook to explore how they can incorporate fun, healthy choices in everyday life.
Healthy Beginnings offers a unique, hands-on program for students to investigate the science behind good health. Guided by certified teachers and Camp Jewell counselors, students participate in fun, inclusive and non-competitive games and physical fitness activities that stress team building, conflict resolution and decision-making skills. Each day, students explore healthy eating through nutrition lessons, hands-on snack prep and taste tests. Healthy Beginnings encourages students to discover and celebrate healthy food choices. Through interactive games and lessons, students are excited to make good health a part of their everyday routine!
