Science Opportunities in Healthcare Environments (SCOPE) is an interactive science enrichment program for diverse 6th, 7th and 8th grade students throughout northwestern Connecticut and the greater Danbury area. Students meet during the summer to explore science as it relates to health care professions.
SCOPE utilizes the nationally known Health Careers Adopt-a-School Curriculum in combination with out-of-school experiential field visits. Students participate in hands-on activities, such as mock emergency services and medical procedures, pharmaceutical lab experiments, medical forensic science investigations and more! Students meet with health care professionals and health industry scientists who serve as powerful role models. SCOPE offers students the opportunity to visit local science and health care facilities, such as Waterbury Hospital, UConn School of Medicine & Dental Medicine, Naugatuck Valley Community College and the CT Science Center. SCOPE emphasizes the connection between knowledge and success in science with future career opportunities in healthcare settings.
