News and Items of Interest from EdAdvance!

Welcome to the Advance - News and Items of Interest from EdAdvance!

The Executive Team will be publishing “The Advance” monthly to keep staff and constituents up to date on items of interest to all our family and friends.

Program Spotlight
  • The Food Services program works collaboratively with 39 schools in 19 districts and the Connecticut State Department of Education Office of Child Nutrition in administering school food service programs. Our department understands that today’s students face many challenges, both inside and outside the classroom. A fundamental need of all children for proper growth and development is good nutrition. Our staff have many years of experience in managing and implementing food service programs which allows us to administer and navigate these complicated and highly regulated federal programs. Our programs provide breakfast and lunch during the school year to over 10,000 students, summer meals for children regionwide while school is out and meals for our Head Start programs.

Other January Highlights
  • Jonathan gave the keynote speech to the annual meeting of the Regional Sector Partnerships, which is sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Workforce Strategy, at Central Connecticut State University.

  • For the first time in over a decade, all six RESC Executive Directors were able to present to the legislature’s joint Education Committee to explain how the RESCs work every day to support quality educational practices across the state of Connecticut.

Of Interest to All Staff
  • January saw a rise in the minimum wage in Connecticut and the implementation of the new sick leave law.

  • On the last day of January, we held our annual Winter Breakfast. Despite the challenging driving conditions for some, dozens of staff attended and enjoyed a wonderful brunch buffet supplied by our terrific food service staff. Thanks to everyone on the Culture Committee for organizing and running this event which also supports the “Stock the Shelves” food drive.

  • Our friend and Assistant Executive Director – formerly known as Lisa Carter – has completed the process of reclaiming the name of her birth, so starting on February 1, she will be Lisa Bowden and will be reachable at bowden@edadvance.org – congratulations Lisa!
