Tails to Tales is an engaging reading and science summer enrichment program for diverse students entering grades 2 and 3 from Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, Newtown, New Fairfield, New Milford, Redding, Region 14 and Sherman. The program uses animals as a powerful springboard to develop children’s curiosity. Guided by certified teachers, students investigate the world of animals through literature, live animal visits, science exploration, experiments and read-alouds. Tails to Tales includes movement (animal-themed field games) and project-related arts and crafts. During each program day, students meet with different animals including rescue dogs, service and therapy dogs, endangered and injured animals living in sanctuaries, birds of prey and other furry and scaly friends whose natural habitats span the globe. The knowledge gained from books and live animals serves as a catalyst for collaborative, hands-on science projects and experiments. Tails to Tales starts with a child’s love of animals and turns it into a love of science and reading!
